About the Team

Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.

The Operations teams work within several complex and challenging environments, including some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery outcomes for its customers, stakeholders and the community.

About the Opportunity

To negotiate with all track access seekers (rail operators,track maintainers, etc.) in order to produce a Daily Train Control Diagram and planned daily train running list (AMBA or equivalent) for each Network Control Board.

Responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:

* Ensure the daily working timetable as formulated conforms where possible to the standard working timetable to obtain maximum utilisation of human resources, equipment and yard capacity and is communicated to the operators;
* Manage customer requests as a total package by coordinating whole train journeys;
* Compile and prepare graphs for use on Network Control Boards including special working documentation;
* Participate in proposals for alterations to schedules and train specifications designed to improve train running performance, subsequent to monitoring current operations performance;
* Compile reports and submissions to management in relevant areas detailing improvements relevant to the operation of the rail network;
* Prepare and implement contingency plans to respond efficiently and effectively to emergency situations while ensuring all safe working requirements are met;
* Cooperate, initiate and maintain effective communication links with all personnel involved with train working, maintenance and external agencies to ensure constant exchange of accurate and timely information necessary to ensure safe and efficient operation;
* Ensure the maximum use of available infrastructure, assets and resources to reduce costs and achieve customer and commercial objectives;
* Validate operator path requests onto the ARTC network and anticipate possible delays or problems that may arise in conjunction with the requirements with the Network management principles related to service priorities;
* Continuously seek to identify opportunities to improve train planning, reduce transit times over ARTC's network and communicate identified opportunities to the Short Term Planning Manager.

* The ability to adapt and remain flexible in a changing environment.
* The ability to make an overall contribution to the goals of ARTC and the rail industry.
* Knowledge of mainline rail system train services and their priorities.
* An understanding of the safety aspects of train operations.
