Pursehouse Ruralis a leading independent Agribusiness specialising in agricultural produce, equipment, services and advice across 26 locations in North West NSW and Queensland.
We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join our team in our Tamworth/Quirindi Branches, on a full time basis.
The Group Financial Controller leads the financial management and governance of the Pursehouse Rural Group. The incumbent provides accurate and timely financial reporting, forward-looking analysis, and commercial guidance to support strategic decision-making. The role oversees all finance, accounting, payroll, and compliance functions and drives continuous improvement across systems, processes, and controls. The position supports long-term financial sustainability and contributes to delivering profitable and resilient growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Leadership and Reporting
· Deliver monthly management accounts, board reports, dashboards, and analysis.
· Ensure accurate general ledger, balance sheet integrity, and reconciliations.
· Lead annual statutory accounts preparation and external audit.
· Maintain strong governance across financial controls, approvals, and delegations.
2. Budgeting, Forecasting, and Planning
· Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasts.
· Provide scenario modelling, cashflow forecasting, and financial risk analysis.
· Support strategic planning, investment appraisal, and capital budgeting.
3. Financial Operations and Compliance
· Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and treasury functions.
· Ensure compliance with taxation, BAS, FBT, payroll tax, superannuation, workers compensation, insurance, and regulatory obligations.
· Manage relationships with banks, insurers, and finance providers.
· Oversee equipment financing and loan administration.
4. Systems, Processes, and Continuous Improvement
· Maintain core finance systems and ensure reliable financial records.
· Improve financial processes to support accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
· Work with other business units to ensure financial processes support operational requirements.
5. Leadership and Team Management
· Manage and develop the finance and administration teams.
· Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
· Provide coaching and support to branch and business managers on financial literacy and decision-making.
6. Governance and Risk
· Maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures.
· Monitor financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
· Ensure confidentiality and prudent handling of sensitive financial information.
7. Business Partnering
· Provide insights that improve profitability, working capital, and cost control.
· Support performance management by analysing branch, division, and product results.
· Embed KPI reporting and coach managers on financial drivers and decision-making.
· Provide forward-looking financial analysis to support strategic planning and business cases.
· Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities that influence Company performance.
8. Risk, Governance, and Assurance
· Support strategic projects, acquisitions, restructures, and business model changes.
· Provide assistance including preparation of registers, minutes, and board materials.
· Fulfil other reasonable tasks within the role's scope.
Ideal applicants will possess the following:
Essential
· CPA or CA qualified.
· Extensive experience in senior accounting, financial management, or controller roles.
· Strong financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting capability.
· Demonstrated experience managing finance teams.
· High proficiency with finance systems and Microsoft Excel.
· Strong analytical skills and commercial insight.
· Knowledge of Australian accounting standards and taxation requirements.
· Excellent communication skills across all levels of the business.
Desirable
· Experience in agribusiness, distribution, or multi-branch environments.
· Experience leading systems improvements or finance systems upgrades.
· Company secretarial or board reporting experience.
