Head of Commercial Development – Museum Experience & Engagement

are exclusively partnered with Australian Museum in their search for a Head of Commercial Development.
In this role you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the commercial future of one of Australia's most iconic cultural institutions. You will lead revenue growth across Events & Venues, Retail, and Catering while building capability and embedding a commercial mindset across the organisation.
What You'll Do
* Lead commercial strategy development and execution across Events & Venues, Retail, and Catering.
* Identify, evaluate, and deliver new revenue opportunities aligned with the AM's mission and visitor experience.
* Provide commercial expertise and guidance to divisions across the AM, building commercial capability organisation-wide.
* Manage financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, P&L oversight, and working capital management.
* Negotiate complex commercial agreements, partnerships, and contracts to maximise value for the AM.
* Lead high-performing commercial teams to deliver customer excellence and drive sustainable revenue growth.
* Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure commercial initiatives complement cultural, scientific, and public sector priorities.
* Foster a performance culture grounded in mission alignment, innovation, and commercial excellence.
What You'll Bring
* Demonstrated expertise in commercial strategy, revenue optimisation, and multi-stream operations.
* Strong financial acumen, including P&L responsibility, forecasting, and commercial analysis.
* Proven success leading commercial growth in complex organisations.
* Experience across at least two of: events and venues, retail, catering/hospitality, or cultural/tourism sectors.
* Substantial senior management experience, with strong capability in negotiating contracts and partnerships.
* Ability to influence, guide, and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
* A leadership style that inspires teams, drives performance, and champions customer excellence.
* A commercial mindset balanced with sensitivity to public sector governance and mission-driven objectives.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, commerce, hospitality management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, to support major commercial activities.
