Overview
Teacher - Education Support role at Department of Education, Western Australia is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2025.
Avonvale Education Support Centre caters for approximately 45 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Our specialised facilities are split across two campuses with early intervention and primary school students located at Avonvale Primary School, and secondary students located at Northam Senior High School.
Our whole school planning ensures the quality of our program delivery is comprehensive and current. Our students are provided with individual education plans that cater to their strengths and needs. All our students learn the Western Australian Curriculum (with the necessary adjustments and modifications) which allows them to participate in age-appropriate lessons and activities.

Responsibilities
- Use explicit teaching strategies and demonstrate effective classroom management skills to enhance student learning and wellbeing.
- Be flexible, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrate a commitment to professional learning, and actively participate in collaborative team planning.
- Plan, program, and assess using an integrated curriculum, differentiated to meet individual student needs.
- Demonstrate highly regarded teaching practices, the capacity for self-reflection, and a willingness to seek ongoing improvement in professional practice.
- Hardworking and knowledgeable about a range of disabilities, and implement strategies that support and enhance individual development across all areas.
- In an education support environment, positively manage a team of Education Assistants to foster a safe and supportive learning environment; engage with and contribute to the school community, and work collaboratively with families, therapists, and external agencies to support improved student outcomes.

Mobility appointments
Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school. Find out if you are eligible on IKON.
Note that south west teachers are not eligible to move to another south west school under this trial.
