About the opportunity


The University of Sydney is Australia's first university now celebrating 175 years of serving the community. Founded in 1918 as the first faculty of architecture in Australia, the School of Architecture, Design and Planning has been an internationally acknowledged centre for intellectual, scientific and aesthetic research in architecture and the built environment since its inception. As such, the program attracts the highest quality applicants in Australia and from all over the world.


We seek to appoint a Professor of Architecture with an outstanding record of research in architecture. The role involves research and academic leadership within architecture, and also within the school and university. The role also includes teaching in architecture programs, research student supervision, and undertaking research or research-led practice that advances architecture and its contribution to humanity.


The appointee's international ambitions for their own work will be matched by their ambition to consolidate the faculty's reputation as an international centre for architectural research and teaching that makes a significant contribution to the field and addresses real-world problems especially the wicked problems challenging us today.




Responsibilities

* Maintain international standing for academic excellence through original, innovative and distinguished contributions to scholarship and research.

* Uphold and strive to enhance the research profile and reputation of the university.

* Coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences that meet the university's expectations and standards for education, including supervising higher degree research students to successful completions.

* Provide thought leadership within the discipline, community, and professional, commercial and industrial sectors.

* Provide effective leadership to promote high performance and improve student learning and research outcomes.

* Contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achievement of outcomes are valued and enabled.

* Lead effective collaborations and strategic initiatives to deliver outcomes in research, development, commercialisation, and policy improvement.





About you (skills, capabilities and experience)

* Outstanding record in research demonstrated by high-impact research outcomes.

* Significant record of successfully obtaining competitive grants.

* Demonstrated track record of high-level service to and collaboration with professional practice, industry, institutional and governmental stakeholders most relevant to their area/s of expertise.

* International profile and reputation with a significant academic profile in higher education nationally and internationally including in teaching and learning.

* Strong interest for research-led teaching in architecture.

* Proven ability to attract and supervise outstanding postgraduate research students and professional research staff.

* Success mentoring early career and mid-career colleagues.

* Demonstrated track record in leadership at the school, university and professional levels.
