What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Senior Investigations Officer to fill a critical vacancy in our Infrastructure Engineering team. This role plays a key part in ensuring traffic and transport-related investigations are delivered in line with legislation, community needs, and Council’s strategic direction. The role suits someone who thrives on complex problem-solving, has a strong background in civil or traffic engineering, and values collaboration. You will be joining a supportive, experienced team committed to continuous improvement and delivering quality infrastructure outcomes for our region.
What Your Day Will Look Like
* Conduct traffic and road infrastructure investigations, including safety audits, permit assessments, and traffic count analysis.
* Provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders on traffic and transport matters.
* Oversee and mentor Investigations Officers and consult with planning and engineering teams to align project goals.
* Support funding submissions and contribute to short and long-term transport infrastructure planning.
* Conduct site inspections and community consultations to ensure solutions are practical and informed.

What You’ll Need For Success
* Diploma or higher in Civil Engineering or relevant field (or ability to obtain within 12 months) OR demonstrated experience in traffic/road investigations.
* Excellent communication, report writing and people skills with strong customer service focus.
* Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, standards (e.g. Austroads, MUTCD), and local government procedures.
* Proven ability to lead and coach team members, deliver technical investigations, and manage project workflows.
What’s Nice To Have
* Experience working in local government infrastructure environments.
* Practical understanding of traffic management implementation.
* Knowledge of funding processes for transport infrastructure programs (e.g. TIDS, Black Spot).
