Role Summary
We are on the lookout for a dynamic Payroll Officer to join our team in West Perth. The Payroll Officer will be responsible for all payroll tasks of the Australian region and will report to the Controller.
Key Duties
- Act as the primary point of contact for all payroll enquiries relating to fortnightly, monthly, and year-end payroll processing and reporting.
- Administer payroll for corporate staff and employees covered by Enterprise Agreements, ensuring compliance with the Fair Work Act, relevant legislation, and taxation obligations.
- Process fortnightly payroll, including calculation and payment of wages, allowances, expense claims, and deductions.
- Prepare and lodge all statutory obligations including PAYG withholding, superannuation contributions, insurances, and other employee benefit costs within required deadlines.
- Provide guidance and support to employees and managers on matters such as PAYG tax, superannuation, allowances, and reimbursable expenses.
- Maintain accurate electronic payroll records in coordination with the external payroll service provider.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations for all payroll-related accounts (e.g. wages payable, superannuation, PAYG, and leave provisions).
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to payroll-related audit requests.
- Work closely with Human Resources to ensure payroll processes align with company policies and to continuously improve controls around employee remuneration and benefits.
- Investigate, address, and resolve payroll-related enquiries from Human Resources and employees.
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and payroll-related bookkeeping practices.
- Formal qualification in Payroll, Accounting, Finance, or Bookkeeping (or progress towards one) is highly regarded.
- Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. Australian Payroll Association) would be an advantage.
- 3–5 years’ payroll experience within a medium to large organisation; exposure to multi-union / Enterprise Agreements will be highly regarded.
- Robust knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, including PAYG taxation, superannuation, and termination payments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills and confidence in leveraging technology to improve processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll matters clearly.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the business.
