About the Role
The Automation & Innovation Hub at the University of Sydney is seeking a technically skilled and business-savvy Data Engineer to power the University's most advanced data solutions and AI projects. From designing robust reporting frameworks to fuelling machine learning workflows, this is your chance to make an impact at a world-class institution. As a Data Engineer, you'll play a central role in designing, developing, and delivering end-to-end data solutions that underpin strategic and operational decisions across the University.
* build and maintain scalable data pipelines, dashboards, and analytics environments using tools like SQL, Python, and Azure Data Factory
* deliver data-driven insights for executive decision-makers, frontline staff, and AI-enabled automation tools
* collaborate with data scientists and AI engineers to prepare high-quality datasets for machine learning models
* guide junior data team members and foster best practices in data engineering and reporting
* work in a fast-paced agile team environment, turning complex technical challenges into clean, impactful data solutions
* get hands-on with the tech stack supporting automation, predictive analytics, natural language processing, and cloud-based data delivery
About You
We're looking for someone who:
* has a bachelor's degree in information technology, Business, Statistics, or a related field
* understands data pipelines from end to end—ingestion, transformation, and visualisation
* has experience with SQL and Python
* can balance technical expertise with stakeholder engagement—running workshops, gathering requirements, and translating needs into data solutions
* has an eye for continuous improvement and a mindset for innovation
