CFA has developed mission client server applications using PowerBuilder/Sybase technology. These applications are also used by other emergency services agencies such as FRV, SES, DFES and TFS. It is crucial that these applications are maintained and supported.
The Senior Technical Analyst offers vital guidance on technical and business aspects, troubleshooting, and facilitating improvements in apps and processes. CFA is building web apps for a new SQL Server database. The analyst ensures all database elements work seamlessly. Offers continuous technical insights to meet evolving business needs. Expanding CFA's core data capabilities in the future will demand added resources and SQL Server proficiency.
More specifically the Senior Technical Analyst will:
1. Lead development, implementation, and review of PowerBuilder/Sybase client-server apps to meet evolving business needs.
2. Offer expertise to ensure system alignment with business rules
3. Provide deep knowledge of database app design and data flow
4. Support PowerBuilder apps for CFA, FRV, SES, DFES, TFS to fix critical bugs
5. Supervise logic changes for data integrity
6. Create effective project plans
7. Manage PowerBuilder code changes for database compatibility, transitioning from Sybase to SQL Server
8. Develop and review DB processes for new/existing apps
9. Facilitate migration from PowerBuilder to Power BI
10. Plan transition to SQL Server, ensuring testing and integration
11. Provide ongoing SQL Server expertise
About You:
12. Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or Computer Science with sound experience working across the full Software Development Life Cycle.
13. Extensive proven experience with PowerBuilder application design and development and experience working with complex UI and business logic.
14. Excellent knowledge of Sybase ASE and SQL Server, Transact SQL, physical/logical data modelling, stored procedure, database design and development and Proficiency in InstallShield packaging tool.
15. Sound understanding and hands-on experience in 2-tier application development paradigm, Power Builder object-oriented development patterns, concurrency control, access management, source control, query optimization and application versioning to develop high-volume and low-latency mission critical applications.
16. Strong reverse engineering skills to extract business rules from the source code and experience in functional, regression and load testing of applications.
17. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated interpersonal skills.
18. Experienced in providing expert technical advice and supporting/ mentoring a team of Developers.
19. Experience in the production of technical documentation including technical specifications, application design and integration documents, operating instructions, test plans.
