The Department of Health Tasmania is seeking an outstanding clinical leader for the role of Statewide Specialist Director – Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
This is a prestigious opportunity to lead transformative mental health care for children and adolescents across Tasmania. As the Statewide Specialist Director – CAMHS, you will drive innovation, excellence, and strategic direction in service delivery, ensuring high-quality, consumer-centred care that meets the needs of our diverse communities.
Working in close partnership with the Group Director and reporting to the Executive Director of Medical Services – Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS), you will be responsible for the statewide performance and development of CAMHS. Your leadership will be central to achieving better access, improved outcomes, and a future-focused model of care.
Key Aspects of the Role
Leading the strategic and clinical direction of CAMHS across Tasmania.
Providing expert advice on clinical practice, policy, legislation, and service design.
Collaborating with senior leaders across government and community sectors.
Championing evidence-based, safe, and innovative care models.
In addition to this leadership role, a professorial appointment aligned with the University of Tasmania may be considered, offering the opportunity to contribute to academic leadership, research, and the education of future mental health professionals.

The Department of Health Tasmania oversees various hospitals across the state, including the Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, Northwest Regional Hospital, and Mersey Community Hospital, as well as district hospitals and ambulance services. Additionally, it provides community health, mental health, and primary healthcare services to the Tasmanian community through more than 300 sites.

Details of Appointment
Permanent full-time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. *Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full-time, part-time and casual vacancies.
Specialist Medical Practitioners
Base Salary
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 – Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3: $216,300 – $310,389 per annum, pro-rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging.
Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 – $310,389 subject to satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement ****.
Allowances
Salary packaging options include a range of benefits such as living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment each year.
Provision of fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum.
Allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%.
Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum.
Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
Professional development and accelerated pathways.
A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
Fitness Passport – you and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $***** per week per person, or $***** for a family.

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as:
Holds specialist registration.
Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) on the specialist pathway.
Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) with a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
Experience working in Child and Adolescent psychiatry.
Membership of RANZCP section of Child and Adolescent psychiatry.
