About the Role
You'll be the primary finance leader for key clients, using data-driven insights to guide critical business decisions. This role combines technical excellence with commercial responsibility - you\'ll not only deliver exceptional bookkeeping services through your team but also assess engagement scope, prepare competitive quotes, and ensure profitable client relationships.
You\'ll manage expectations with high-powered founders, and departmental teams in high-growth companies. The role offers endless opportunities to support cutting-edge technology companies.
Key Qualifications
1. Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Commerce
2. 7+ years progressive accounting and finance experience
3. Proven experience managing teams of bookkeepers/accountants across 50+ clients
4. Senior or Management experience with emphasis on quality control
5. Commercial experience in pricing, quoting, and engagement management
6. Deep knowledge of Australian accounting standards, GST, and compliance requirements
7. Expert-level Xero proficiency and app ecosystem knowledge
8. Superior communication and presentation skills
9. Advanced Excel and financial reporting software capabilities
Preferred Qualifications:
10. Top 100 firm experience with mid-sized, tech, or eCommerce clients
11. Experience with Australian tax legislation and BAS preparation
12. Some audit experience will be beneficial but not critical
13. Background in pricing professional services or engagement scoping
14. Track record of profitable client portfolio management
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Team, your key responsibilities include:
15. Manage a portfolio of Australian clients (startups to scale-ups) in a financial controller capacity along your team
16. Ensure 5-star quality bookkeeping, BAS preparation, and Australian compliance requirements
17. Oversee financial management including monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and statutory reporting
18. Present results and insights to non-finance stakeholders
Commercial Management
19. Assess and quote on new bookkeeping engagements based on client complexity and scope
20. Lead discovery meetings on potential bookkeeping engagements
21. Negotiate engagement updates and manage scope changes with clients
22. Monitor engagement profitability and billing efficiency
23. Manage client billing cycles, collections, and engagement scope tracking
24. Identify opportunities for service expansion and value-added offerings
25. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 5-10 remote bookkeepers
26. Review bookkeeping work and reporting packages to ensure quality standards
27. Streamline accounting workflows for both basic and complex requirements
28. Support team professional development and Xero certification
Strategic Finance Functions (in tandem with your bookkeeping team)
29. Coordinate external auditor relationships and compliance
30. Oversee banking and borrowing arrangements
31. Implement and optimise financial systems
32. Provide strategic financial recommendations to Executive Leadership
33. Oversee AP, AR, Payroll, and Management Accounting functions
