About the Role
This role offers a mix of field and office work that supports a wide variety of clients in the mining, transportation, pipeline, energy, and community sectors, completed under the guidance of technical experts.
* Field work includes site investigations, drilling and downhole testing, test pitting, field mapping, geophysical surveys, instrumentation installation, river/stream inspection, and engineering geology assessment.
* Field work typically involves 2-3 weeklong field stints in remote areas, and may include multiple shifts, or a scheduled rotation.
Office work includes reporting and interpretation of field data, engineering or geoscience analysis, material and site characterization, interpretation of instrumentation data, and contribution to designs.
Responsibilities
Projects may include field and office-based work related to geotechnical investigation, assessment, design, and construction monitoring at mine sites for waste management facilities, open pits, underground excavations, access roads, and building foundations.
* Work could include foundation inspection, oversight of material placement and design conformance, interpretation of field or instrumentation data, seepage, slope stability, and deposition analysis.
* Other tasks include reporting and data reduction, and preparing construction drawings and specifications.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Requirements include a currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a relevant undergraduate degree in Civil (Geotechnical/Hydrotechnical/General) or Geological Engineering, Geoscience, Geology, Geophysics, or a related field.
Also required are 0-5 years of relevant work experience, excellent written, presentation, and oral communications, MS Office proficiency, and proficiency using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
A second language and post-graduate degree are assets.
