The role
Position
Financial Risk Manager – Australia (12‐month fixed‐term contract, Sydney). This role reports directly to the country CRO and provides second‐line risk management advice and oversight to safeguard the stability and integrity of the organisation's operations in the AU/NZ region.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the AU/NZ CRO to support the delivery of the region's risk management strategy.
- Conduct regular financial risk assessments and stress tests to identify and evaluate risks specific to the AU/NZ region.
- Work closely with product teams to add risk insights into product changes, new products, market launches, open issues and horizon risks relevant to the region.
- Monitor and analyse regional market trends, product risks, incidents, regulatory developments and emerging risk factors to assess their impact on the organisation's risk profile and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Oversee the implementation of risk management tools and systems in the AU/NZ region, leveraging technology and data analytics to enhance risk monitoring, reporting and decision‐making processes.
- Collaborate with business units and functions to design and implement effective financial risk mitigation strategies, controls and action plans; monitor their effectiveness and recommend enhancements as necessary.
- Monitor the delivery of remediation actions and risk management projects, working collaboratively with business units, functions and external consultants.
- Provide timely and accurate financial risk reports and updates to senior management and the board of directors, highlighting key risk exposures, trends and emerging risks in the AU/NZ region.
- Prepare ICAAP report for Wise Australia and oversee the development, implementation and annual review of the local Liquidity Management Policy, Business Plan and Exit Plan.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of financial services experience, preferably in banking or fintech with a focus on the AU/NZ region.
- Demonstrated track record of second‐line risk management experience; first‐line experience within the 3LOD model will be strongly considered.
- Excellent understanding of liquidity, market and credit risks.
- Background in prudential regulatory risks, including stress testing, is preferred.
- Strong problem‐solving, decision‐making and analytical skills to navigate complex situations and make data‐driven decisions.
- Thrives in a fast‐paced, dynamic environment and is comfortable navigating the complexities of a subsidiary operation.
- Ability to drive results internally with global teams while fostering a culture of local ownership and initiatives.
- Right to work in Australia (no visa sponsorship).
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: AUD 120,000 – 170,000 per annum + super.
Right to work in Australia (no visa sponsorship).
