Job Overview
We are seeking a Laboratory Manager to lead our laboratory operations and ensure compliance with safety management systems.
This is a 14-month fixed-term contract that will play a crucial role in achieving laboratory compliance, scientific excellence, operational efficiency, and cross-regional alignment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team, driving quality, regulatory compliance, and innovation, as well as ensuring equipment maintenance and availability.
Responsibilities
* Plan and schedule activities within the laboratories and ensure equipment maintenance and availability.
* Maintain laboratory compliance with QinetiQ, Defence, and DSTG Safety Management Systems and Policies.
* Conduct plant risk assessments and develop associated documentation.
* Document laboratory processes and operating procedures.
* Maintain complex scientific equipment, monitor performance, and calibrate as necessary.
* Organise quotations and purchasing artifacts to support maintenance/calibration activities.
* Assist with regular audits and workplace inspections and establish/maintain laboratory records.
* Ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
* Maintain general laboratory housekeeping and undertake procurement as required.
* Ensure laboratory users are onboarded and hold appropriate competencies.
Requirements
* Experience in a hands-on laboratory environment and in laboratory management.
* Good written and verbal communication skills for a range of stakeholders.
* Ability to develop positive relationships and work effectively as part of a team.
* Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Chemical/Materials Engineering or relevant vocational qualifications.
* Australian Defence security clearance (NV1).
