Your role at St John of God Bunbury Hospital We are currently seeking suitably qualified and experienced Medical Specialist to work in permanent part- time role as Head of General Medicine and Medical Subspecialties. You will Provide clinical and strategic leadership and direction, service planning, effective management and provision of services in the Department of General Medicine and Medical Subspecialties (Excluding cardiology and Palliative Care), meeting clinical indicators and budgetary targets. This role is permanent part-time at 8 hours per fortnight (.1FTE) The Position Work with the Director of Medical Services and the other Heads of Department to ensure the service provided is of the highest quality, with an emphasis on patient focused care. Within the Hospital Funding framework, contributes to decision making on service issues including the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans in alignment with the vision and guiding principles of the Hospital. Ensure efficient use of human and physical resources so that the specialty operates within the allocated financial, bed and clinic resources. Member of hospital’s MAC. Accountable to the Director of Medical Services in regard to the Department meeting the hospital's strategic initiatives and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) as outlined in the agreed Operational PlanOversee training and educational activities ensuring that general medicine and sub-specialties meet the accreditation standards of the relevant Learned Colleges and the Postgraduate Medical Council of WA, involving both medical and nursing caregiversTo act as a consultant to provide specialist medical services to patients within the department. To participate as a valued team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment. Actively participate in the clinical duties of the department including the Consultant after-hours on-call roster and weekend roster. Manage the on-call rosters for consultants to ensure appropriate caregivers are always available (in person or by phone) to manage patients. Manage consultant leave to ensure continuity of service provisionResponsible for professional development reviews of all employed consultants in the department. Ensure all junior medical caregivers receive both verbal and written orientation outlining the educational objectives of the term, their duties, when and how to escalate concerns regarding patient care and the criteria for evaluation of their performance at term’s endEnsure that all medical caregivers contribute to clinical service and teaching to a level commensurate with their appointment. Monitors each consultant’s use of non-clinical time. Organise and chairs regular departmental meetings (including multidisciplinary meetings) to consider matters affecting the operation of the department. Performance manages caregivers who do not meet time, quality or clinical expectation supported by the Director of medical Services You will be a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent professional membership and have demonstrated substantial clinical experience in the management of high acuity patients in a complex hospital environment. You will have demonstrated ability to foster a positive service orientated culture that encourages sound patient care and stewardship, focusing on innovation and productivity improvements, with proven experience in senior management clinical experience in General Medicine.
