The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a critical participant in the administration of justice within Western Australia, providing an independent and effective criminal prosecution service and confiscation practice.
State Prosecutors represent the community and public interest by conducting the prosecution of criminal offences pursuant of Western Australian law.
They have responsibility for both the preparation and presentation work of prosecution cases as they progress through the court process.
2LG is an entry level State Prosecutor position at the ODPP.
This position is aimed at practitioners with limited post admission who have interest in the practice of criminal law.
As a 2LG State Prosecutor you will, under appropriate supervision, manage a variety of prosecutions cases and appear as counsel at court proceedings which include disclosure / committal hearings, sentencing hearings, trials of the issue, directions hearings, criminal trials as junior counsel and, in due course, criminal trials as lead counsel.
Suitable applicants will be placed in a recruitment pool.
This pool will run for a period of twelve months and may be used to fill fixed-term and permanent full time and part time vacancies if they arise and subject to business needs.

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to a position with the ODPP, it is essential that you are an Australian Citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.

The ODPP deals with serious criminal offences, including homicide offences involving members of the WA Community.
In the course of your duties, you will encounter materials including, however not limited to, photographs, videos, written statements, and oral evidence.
You will have direct engagement with members of the WA Community associated with these charges.
This material may be confronting and emotionally distressing.

Criminal Record, Employment and Integrity Screening
