About The Role

The Anthropologist positions are responsible for providing anthropological advice in relation to the implementation of the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 (Cth) (ALRA) and the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA). The primary focus is to identify, represent and assist traditional Aboriginal owners (TAOs) and Native Title Holders (NTHs) in matters arising from the acquisition, use, occupation and management of their land under ALRA and the NTA.

Assigned to a specific practice area, you'll have the chance to collaborate across all teams, working alongside lawyers and other professionals gaining rich and varied experience.

You'll bring a solid foundation in anthropological fieldwork and research, strong cultural competency, and a respectful approach to working with Aboriginal communities. With excellent communication and analytical skills, you're able to translate complex cultural information into clear reports and advice. Whether you're an early‐career professional or a seasoned Anthropologist, your passion for protecting land rights and cultural heritage will drive your contribution to this important work.

In Addition To This We Are Looking For

* Degree in Anthropology, or related discipline; or extensive experience in a similar industry or role and minimum two (2) years practical experience. Knowledge of the ALRA Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (ALRA) and the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA)
* Proven ability to research, prepare and draft anthropological reports, associated materials and other documents fit for purpose.
* Sound time management and organisational skills.
* Ability to travel and work in remote locations on a regular basis.
* C Class drivers' licence.

Working At The NLC Also Includes

* Competitive base salary dependent on experience plus 15% superannuation on base and district allowance
* Salary sacrificing of up to $15,900 plus meal and entertainment card benefits
* Other benefits under our Enterprise Agreement include:
o District Allowance DA2 of $4,884 per annum for individuals with dependents and DA1 $2,678 without dependents. The district allowance is higher for regional positions
o 5 weeks annual leave, leaving loading, 18 days personal leave
o Upon completion of 12 months of service and annual airfare with a net in hand value of $3,177
