The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Industry Officer, to provide a critical role within Hopkins Correctional Centre.
About The Business Unit
Hopkins Correctional Centre is a medium‐security prison located in Western Victoria housing up to 798 people. The prison takes a multi‐disciplinary approach that promotes active participation in activities structured to assist with rehabilitation and reintegration back to community at end of sentence.
About The Role
As an Industry Officer, you will be responsible for supervising a team of prisoners that work within the prison industry. Industries operational at Hopkins Correctional Centre include metal fabrication and assembly, custom & number plates, signage, upholstery, timber.
In a vocational training environment, the Industry Officer will coach, mentor and motivate prisoners, placing emphasis upon individual offender management with a view to rehabilitation.
A Pre‐Employment Health Assessment will be required for external candidates and non‐custodial staff.
Some Of Your Duties Will Include
* Effectively manage all work areas to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors. This includes appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff and prisoners for compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety, and security procedures.
* Deliver performance management targets and undertake professional development as required to enhance the role as part of a staff team, with emphasis on following industry requirements for OH&S, quality assurance, monitoring, recording and record keeping systems of prison industry functional areas and recommending improvements where necessary.
* Participate in offender management practice, procedures, and the implementation of new initiatives, particularly related to the integration of training in industry. Actively participate in working parties and reference groups and provide advice through formal reports to supervisors and senior management.
About You
Qualifications/Requirements
* Completion of (or willing to undertake) Prison Pre-Service Training
* An appropriate trade qualification and/or experience relevant to industries operational in Hopkins Correctional Centre.
* Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable).
Salary
COG2B: $85,787 - $98,651 plus superannuation
