* One position is Based at our St Lucia Campus and the other is based at our Herston Campus
About This Opportunity
As an Associate Animal Technician, you will play a hands-on role in the daily operations of our animal facilities, including the provision of care, monitoring animal health and welfare, maintaining breeding programs, and supporting research activities. Working under the direction of the Senior Animal Facility Manager, you will also contribute to cleaning, waste management, equipment processing, and ensure compliance with strict regulatory and ethical standards.
These positions offer an exciting opportunity to develop your technical skills while contributing meaningfully to research that addresses global challenges in health, science, and innovation. The role may be based at one of UQBR's locations across St Lucia or Herston campuses.
Key responsibilities will include:
4. Daily husbandry and welfare checks of laboratory rodents
5. Breeding colony management and data recording
6. Performing routine procedures (e.g., injections, sample collection, euthanasia)
7. Cleaning and maintaining animal facilities and equipment
8. Ensuring compliance with animal welfare and biosafety regulations
* Working rostered weekends and public holidays

About You
15. Certificate III in Laboratory Animal Technology (TAFE QLD) or interstate equivalent
16. Demonstrated experience in small laboratory animal care facilities.
17. At least 2 years of experience with animal house procedures and small laboratory animal handling techniques
18. Demonstrated experience and competence with routine techniques in rodents (injections, sample collection, and euthanasia)
19. Demonstrated understanding of industry regulatory requirements e.g., OH&S, OGTR, DAFF, and AEC regulatory requirements
20. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with other team members
21. Ability to effectively plan and prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.
22. High level of accuracy and attention to detail & capacity to work effectively in a team environment
23. At least 6 months' work experience in an animal facility would be well regarded.
* Sound knowledge and understanding of the University's OH&S policies and procedures, or demonstrated the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, mandatory immunisations and medical clearance
