Liability Claims Officer - Contract Works- Location: Melbourne, open to Parramatta and Adelaide- Type: Permanent, full time
The opportunity
A unique opportunity has become available for an experienced Construction/Liability Claims Officer to join our Melbourne team, reporting directly to the Service Manager of the Construction/Liability Claims team and supported by the Technical Services Officer.
Your new role
In this role you will be responsible for managing a variety of Construction claims in the Long Tail (Liability Risks) and Short Tail (Material Damage) product areas including claim types of complex property damage and personal injury claims. An understanding of Construction risks, litigation & the legal environment and experience in claims management is essential to being successful in the role.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Receiving, recording and processing all incoming insurance claims in the Construction Claims team- Interpreting policy coverage and determining if coverage applies to claims submitted, escalating issues as needed- Setting reserves and authorizing payments within scope of authority, settling claims in the most cost-effective manner- Identifying suspicious or potentially fraudulent claims, notifying supervisor, arranging investigations and briefing solicitors if further action is to be taken- Contribute towards the achievement of divisional annual action plans/budgets and operational objectives- Develop trusted relationships with brokers / intermediaries- Proactively managing claims to achieve best customer outcomes and prevent escalations- Work with key internal and external stakeholders, including underwriting and sales teams, brokers, panel lawyers, other service providers, regulators, claimants and their representatives- Develop close relationships with construction underwriters and product specialists- Enhance and develop your own technical expertise and participate in professional development and training- Deliver the highest quality customer service and develop strong working relationships with all customers and service providers
About you- Genuine long term interest in managing Construction Claims across jurisdictions- Demonstrated ability to manage a diversified portfolio of Construction claims in the Long Tail (Liability Risks) and Short Tail (Material Damage) product areas including claim types of complex property damage and personal injury claims- Legal knowledge and/or legal background will be highly regarded- Possess an understanding of construction and liability insurance products- In-depth understanding and knowledge of insurance claims processes and competency in relevant claims systems- Excellent customer service and communication skills and a desire to provide a superior claims service- Ability to effectively collaborate- Strong organizational skills alongside proven time management skills- Demonstrated analytical and negotiation skills.
