About the Role:
The Department of Defence is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to support multiple DEF100 Capability Elements. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-impact Defence projects, designing and implementing secure, integrated systems in line with Australian Government Architecture standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with both technical and non-technical team members, providing expertise across system design, deployment, and ongoing support. Where DEF100 positions are filled, suitable candidates may be considered for other AGO projects.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop detailed system designs that meet project specifications and align with architectural guidance, balancing functional and non-functional requirements.
* Provide expert technical advice, evaluating alternative design options and trade-offs.
* Install, configure, and deploy systems and components, ensuring proper integration and functionality.
* Diagnose and resolve technical issues, maintaining system stability and minimizing disruptions.
* Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting.
* Prepare security documentation to support formal compliance assessments and approvals.
* Contribute to continuous improvement processes, collaborating effectively with project teams, business partners, and stakeholders.
* Operate with discretion and professionalism in a high-security environment.
Essential Requirements:
* Proven experience in systems engineering with senior-level expertise (EL1 equivalent).
* Ability to work onsite in Canberra with minimal travel.
* Positive Vetting security clearance (must be maintained for the duration of the contract).
* Demonstrated capability in all of the following areas:
* Designing integrated systems aligned with project specifications and architectural guidance.
* Providing technical advice, evaluating alternatives, and managing trade-offs.
* Installing, configuring, and deploying system components effectively.
* Diagnosing and resolving technical problems promptly.
* Creating and maintaining comprehensive system documentation.
* Producing security documentation for compliance and approval processes.
* Collaborating flexibly with project teams and stakeholders to support continuous improvement.
