OverviewSenior Finance Officer role with responsibilities across leadership of business operations, financial management, budgeting, and advisory support to the General Manager and leadership team within Crop and Food Science.ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and direction for business operations including revenue and expenditure accounting activities and ongoing development of a wide range of business strategies spanning the business unit.Design and implement effective business planning processes, prepare business and asset management plans and financial reporting to the General Manager.Provide high level financial analysis and scenario planning to the Leadership Team on a wide range of business services and strategies.Lead the preparation of the annual budget build, collaborating with all Project Leaders and the Leadership Team to ensure the Business Unit complies with contractual commitments of externally funded research projects.Identify financial, administrative, and asset management problems and issues; undertake research and investigative action to implement solutions, ensuring accountability, efficiency and compliance with financial management policy, standards and practices.Provide expert financial and purchasing advice to the business unit.Provide expert financial advice and support to the General Manager, Directors, Science Leaders and staff to improve performance and accountability; provide targeted training as required.Provide advice, guidance and training to project officers providing financial and administration support to Crop and Food Science.Provide specialist advice on expenditure and revenue accounting targets, integrated budget management, and manage a complex budget with the management team and project leaders.Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the Department and with Finance and Asset Account Managers.Participate in multi-disciplinary projects and represent Crop and Food Science in department financial discussions; set challenging goals and foster robust staff relationships.As part of the C&FS; Leadership Team, promote a positive performance culture reflecting DPI values within C&FS.Assist; the Principal Coordinator (External Funding) in project management activities.QualificationsTertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g., Accounting, Financial Management, Business) and/or relevant transferable experience.Level 2 Procurement Accreditation or willingness to attain.High level proficiency in financial management and interpretation/analysis of financial information.Ability to prepare timely, accurate, and concise financial reports using relevant databases and spreadsheet applications.Sound knowledge of project management activities and policies regarding externally funded projects; purchasing policy and procedures; Queensland public sector financial management processes, Financial Administration Audit Act, and the Financial and Performance Management Standard.Desirable AttributesTertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (eg Accounting, Financial Management, Business) and/or transferable experience.Level 2 Procurement Accreditation or willingness to attain.High level proficiency in financial management; strong analysis of financial information; ability to prepare comprehensive financial reports.Knowledge of project management policies for externally funded projects and related government standards.Why Work For UsWork with passion and purposeHave a tangible impact, for today and tomorrowEnjoy interesting, diverse workFollow your path, wherever it leadsGet the flexibility and support you need to thriveBe part of our one, diverse DPIAdditional InformationVisit to remain current for 12 monthsJob Ad reference: QLD/662940/25Closing Date: Monday, 13 October 2025Further information: We are committed to building inclusive cultures in the Queensland public sector that respect and promote human rights and diversity.
