BUSINESS UNIT DESCRIPTION
The Finance group provides financial services to CIBC's business through effective governance and decision support processes. These services include financial management and regulatory reporting, maintenance of accounting records and internal controls, financial analysis and planning, tax planning and compliance, treasury, global sourcing and payment processing, regular reviews of business line performance, asset record maintenance, liaising with external authorities on financial reporting matters. Additionally, Finance assists Corporate Development in providing financial advice regarding CIBC's business opportunities and transactions.
LINE OF BUSINESS DESCRIPTION
Finance Shared Services, Australia, acts as a one-stop shop providing the full suite of finance services to the Australia office, which currently includes a local subsidiary group and a branch. The team handles financial regulatory, management, and statutory reporting, accounts payable and expense accounting, and taxation. It helps clients and partners make effective decisions, ensures compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements, processes vendor invoices and expenses, and supports global and regional projects and initiatives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Management Reporting
* Validate daily profit and loss against source systems and report to business and head office, including circulation of daily CB and FLM P&L reports.
* Support and ensure accurate month-end closing, including reconciliations and journal postings.
* Assist in preparing monthly management and financial accounts.
* Prepare head office reports such as tax schedules, PnL/DFE true-up reports, and supplementary info for securities and lease commitments.
Regulatory Reporting
* Assist with year-end accounts and financial statements for local subsidiaries.
* Prepare tax working papers, liaise on CbC reporting with tax agents, and assist with GST and IAS returns.
* Support external audits and respond to auditor queries.
* Maintain tax fixed asset registers and reconcile tax versus accounting figures at year-end.
Transaction Processing
* Perform accounts payable and receivable functions, including reconciliations.
* Ensure compliance with accounting policies and prepare journal entries regularly.
* Liaise with business and operations to process Wall Street and ACBS transactions, including fees.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
* 1-2 years of relevant accounting experience.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Understanding of basic accounting concepts and billing/payment processes.
* Proficiency in Excel and Word.
