We are seeking NV1-cleared policy professionals for an exciting Canberra-based contract opportunity within a Commonwealth agency.
They are a new, high-profile, Commonwealth agency currently establishing itself, making this a standout opportunity for someone who wants to make a real mark in a formative environment. These roles offer the chance to contribute to important policy and regulatory work at a key stage in the agency’s growth and establishment.
We are recruiting for three positions:
* 2 x APS6 equivalent – Senior Policy Officers
* 1 x EL1 equivalent – Assistant Director Policy
These roles will suit candidates with strong Defence and/or regulatory policy experience, particularly those who can define and support regulatory frameworks, develop policy, manage risk, and engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.

Available roles
APS6 equivalent – Senior Policy Officers (x2)
The APS6 roles will work under limited direction to develop and implement complex policy, undertake research and analysis, contribute to policy advice, and engage with stakeholders to support policy development programs and regulatory work.
These roles will suit candidates who can operate independently, think critically, and contribute to complex policy matters while working effectively in a team environment.
EL1 equivalent – Assistant Director Policy (x1)
The EL1 role will work closely with senior leaders to support and help lead policy development activities, contribute to the design of criteria to monitor and evaluate policy effectiveness, identify and manage risks to policy programs, lead stakeholder consultation activities, and provide high-level advice on complex and sensitive policy issues.
This role will suit a more senior policy professional who is comfortable operating at a strategic level while also helping shape processes, tools and frameworks that support high-quality policy development.
Key requirements
We are looking for candidates with experience in some or all of the following:
* Previous experience in Defence and/or in policy roles within a regulatory government environment is essential
* Defining, developing or supporting regulatory frameworks
* Policy development and implementation
* Risk management
* Stakeholder engagement and stakeholder management
* Research, analysis and evidence-based advice
* Working in complex government or highly regulated environments
* Shipbuilding, maritime or naval experience will be highly regarded
Tertiary qualifications are desirable, particularly in policy, regulation, law or related disciplines. Candidates with qualifications in other areas will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong relevant policy and/or regulatory experience.

Rate ranges
APS6: $70 - $77 per hour excluding super
EL1: $84 - $92 per hour excluding super
