Overview
The Payments Product Chapter Area Lead (CAL) is an Executive Manager role responsible for building modern, customer-centric product management practices across the Payments Domain. The CAL will champion product excellence, foster talent, and help ensure payments products deliver outstanding customer and commercial outcomes. The CAL reports to the General Manager, Strategy & Relationship Pricing, and works with Product Management Chapter Leads, Crew Leads, and cross-functional teams across the Group.
Responsibilities
* Strengthen: promote modern product management practices aligned with the Silicon Valley Product Group model (or similar) and help product managers and squads learn and apply these practices.
* Engage: foster connection, engagement, and collaboration across approximately 40-50 payments product managers and the broader Group-wide product practice.
* Support: partner with Crew Leads to develop and retain product talent, manage succession plans, and recruit high-performing product managers.
* Build high-performance product practices within the Payments Domain, guided by customer-centric product management principles.
* Inspire product managers and squads to unlock innovation, customer outcomes, personal growth, and broader opportunities.
* Develop and articulate strategy, vision, and customer value proposition (CVP) for products using market analysis, customer insights, data, and commercial imperatives.
* Coach squads to embed the product model in discovery and delivery, involving the full squad in customer research and product discovery.
* Advocate for customer-centricity and ensure customer needs are central to development and decision-making with regular customer engagement.
* Align talent and capability development with the Payments Leadership Team's priorities.
* Focus on achieving strong commercial outcomes, including market share growth, revenue, and profitability.
* Challenge product roadmaps to prioritise high-value features and accelerate delivery of customer outcomes.
* Represent the Payments Domain at product forums and facilitate information flow to adopt best practices from across the Group.
* Promote people development, succession planning, and a culture of continuous improvement for the ~40-50 product managers in Payments.
* Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across product chapters and promote professional growth.
* Ensure deep understanding of regulatory, risk, and compliance requirements and embed these into product development and delivery.
Qualifications
* 7-10+ years of professional experience, ideally including roles in banking or finance, at modern product-centric technology companies, and/or in product consulting.
* Experience with payments products (e.g., cards, acquiring, domestic and international).
* Proven track record across both new and established products with strong customer and commercial performance.
* Deep understanding of modern product management practices, including design, discovery, strategy, and prioritisation.
* Strong coaching skills to develop people, set objectives, deliver feedback, motivate, and recruit talent.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to inspire colleagues and convey clear messages.
* Ability to build strong relationships, influence with integrity, and constructively challenge up and down the organization.
* University degree in a relevant field.
