The Preschools and Early Childhood Services Division provides exceptional support and advocacy for high-quality SA Government early childhood education and care services. These services respond to the changing needs of children, families, and communities in South Australia.

The role of the Principal Policy and Program Officer, Aboriginal Early Years, is pivotal in contributing towards the department's strategies and objectives. This includes the Preschool Reform Agreement, Aboriginal Education Strategy, Closing the Gap commitments, and Our Strategy for Public Education.

The incumbent will lead cutting-edge programs aimed at achieving preschool reform priorities. They will manage the Preschool Plus initiative, delivering 30 hours of preschool to South Australia's most developmentally vulnerable children.

The role demands expertise in researching, planning, implementation, and change management. It requires supporting new and improved strategies and objectives that positively impact educational and care experiences for Aboriginal early childhood education and care, as well as for children in priority cohorts.

* Researching and planning innovative programs to achieve preschool reform priorities.
* Managing the Preschool Plus initiative to deliver 30 hours of preschool to vulnerable children.
* Engaging widely with Aboriginal people and communities, families with children in care, government agencies, and critical stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications: Nil; Desirable qualification: relevant qualification in early childhood education and care.

Special conditions include Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check required prior to employment, renewal every five years before expiry. RRHAN – EC Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or online (Fundamentals) course, required to be updated every three years.
