Development Assessment Services - Northern Region
Darwin, Katherine – Northern Territory
One full time, ongoing vacancy is available
Bring your sense of adventure and your passion for Lands Use Planning and surveying to a unique planning role located in Katherine or Darwin.
The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) aims to facilitate sustainable economic development in the Northern Territory through planning, building and land management. The Development Assessment Services team is recruiting a Senior Panner to support the Big Rivers Region. The position is preferably located in Katherine; however, the duties can be performed from Darwin with regular travel to Katherine for meetings.
As a Senior Planner your primary objective is to provide high-level professional advice and information to the Department, the Northern Territory Planning Commission, the Development Consent Authority (DCA), relevant Government Departments and agencies, and the public on planning and development issues in Katherine and the Big River Region. In addition, you will be required to process development applications, prepare reports to the DCA and Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment, ensure developments comply with the relevant Planning Scheme and undertake inspections of development sites.
To be successful, you are required to hold a degree or diploma qualification related to Land Use Planning from an Australian tertiary institution, have eligibility to full corporate membership of the Planning Institute of Australia; demonstrated recent experience in dealing with a wide range of land use, land capability and development planning issues. Well-developed political and cross-cultural awareness and the ability to communicate effectively with technical, professional and lay people is essential.
If you reside interstate, this is a great time to consider moving to Katherine, the point where the traditional lands of the Jawoyn, Dagoman and Wardaman peoples converge. Katherine is also famous for its Nitmiluk (Katherine) George, misty waterfalls, thermal springs, and amazing Aboriginal artwork.
Note: This is a Katherine based position; however, consideration may be given for you to perform the duties of the role from Darwin.
Whilst operating from Darwin, you will be required to travel to Katherine to attend DCA meetings, conduct site inspections and meet with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders. Additional travel may be required for traveling to other locations within the Big Rivers Region.
In return, you will receive a competitive remuneration package, inclusive of 12% superannuation, 6 weeks' recreational leave, 3 weeks' personal leave, up to 17.5% annual leave allowance and additional paid leave to cover the Christmas – New Years' Day shut-down. Flexible work agreements, study support and career development opportunities are also available.
