Job Description
About the Role
As a member of the Greyhound Stewards' Panel, this position is responsible for maintaining the integrity and good reputation of Greyhound racing throughout Western Australia. As a senior member of the Greyhound Steward's team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standard of integrity and enforcing the industry's standards as empowered by the Rules of Racing.
Key responsibilities include:
Attending race meetings as either the Steward-in-Charge or a Steward, including supervising and mentoring stewards, race day veterinarian and other racing staff as appropriate.
Conducting or assisting in inquiries into potential breaches of the rules, including representing the Stewards and preparing transcripts and exhibits for appeals.
Performing all duties in accordance with the powers outlined in the Rules of Greyhound Racing.
Conducting kennel inspections, including inspections of and identification of greyhounds
Assist in the registration process and determining suitability of applicants
Engage in media and public relations as directed by the Chief Steward, including liaising with Shire rangers, RSCPA officers and media as directed.
Analyse and assess the operating methods in the racing industry to identify areas requiring development and/or improvement.
Provide leadership, mentoring and training to other stewards or integrity officials.
Qualifications
About You
Strong experience in all aspects of racing administration / stewardship
Leadership abilities in training, supervising and appraising staff
Demonstrated ability to work within the boundaries set by statutory bodies, other regulations and RWWA
In depth knowledge of the Rules of Greyhound Racing and/or racing related matters
Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge of greyhounds
Sound computer skills – Microsoft Office suite and the in-house computer package OzChase software
Demonstrated knowledge of legal proceedings and requirements of domestic tribunal and natural justice
Knowledge of current legislation e.g. Racing Penalties Appeal Tribunal Act, Racing & Wagering Act 2003
Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or extensive prior experience in a seniors Steward's role
Ability to use initiative, discretion and judgement managing and resolving racing issues and problems
Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to relate, and be responsive to a broad range of people including media, executive, statutory bodies and industry participants
