About This Role

* Fixed term (30 June 2027) Opportunity
* VPS4 - $97,955 - $111,142 plus superannuation

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking aProgram Officer – Policy, Strategy and Operations Teamwithin Stolen Generations Reparations Unit (SGRU).

This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
About The Business Unit
The Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. The group works in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self-determination in the justice sector.

The SGRU was established to implement the Reparations Package to help address the trauma and suffering caused by the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families, culture and Country. The Program Officer, Policy, Strategy and Operations will be responsible for supporting internal processes and systems that enable the delivery of the Reparations Package, with a specific focus on the coordination of the four Restorative Programs: In-Person Apologies, Access to Records, Healing (Welcome Back to Country Program) and Record Your Story.

About The Role
As the Program Officer, you will coordinate the delivery of the Restorative Programs, as well as provide project support to senior colleagues within the team around engagement and events and drive the monthly reporting for the unit. The role will also require building relationships within the Department on behalf of the SGRU to deliver key program, policy and strategic responses for the SGRU.

You will support key activities that involve working with Aboriginal people who have lived experience of trauma. The role requires an understanding of both the principles of cultural safety, and the gravity of this reform for impacted Aboriginal Victorians. The role also requires resilience, empathy, and adaptability and may involve dealing with material that can be challenging and distressing. You will also be required to have strong organisation and communication skills.

Some Of Your Responsibilities Will Include

* Coordinate the delivery of the Restorative Programs, with an important focus on managing data sets.
* Lead the end-to-end production in the unit's monthly performance report using Power BI, including coordinating inputs from internal teams, validating and analysing data for accuracy and ensuring a timely delivery.
* Manage a complex workload and applying strong organisational and coordination for key functions.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:

* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal community, society and culture and the issues impacting on these.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
* Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and/or coordinating efficient program administration systems and processes.
* Demonstrated experience in applying trauma-informed approaches to providing support services or capacity to rapidly acquire and apply knowledge.
