We're looking for a passionate and curious professional to join our Safety, Health, Environment and Learning team as a Human Factors Advisor — a role where psychology, data, and real-world safety come together.
You'll play a key role in helping our people perform at their best — bringing human factors science and fatigue management into day-to-day rail operations.
Working alongside a team of technical experts, you'll influence how we design work, learn from events, and continuously improve safety across Aurizon.
What you'll be doing
Provide specialist advice and support on human factors and fatigue risk management.
Partner with operations and safety teams to identify and manage human performance risks.
Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of Aurizon's Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS).
Support investigations and learning reviews by providing human factors insights.
Drive continuous improvement projects focused on human performance and system safety.
About you
You're someone who loves understanding why people do what they do — and how work can be designed to make it safer, easier, and more effective.
You'll bring curiosity, empathy, and a strong technical foundation in human factors, psychology, or safety.
You'll also bring:
A tertiary qualification in psychology, human factors, or a related field (mandatory).
Experience applying human factors or fatigue risk management principles in transport, aviation, mining, or other safety-critical industries (preferred).
The ability to engage and influence across all levels of an organisation.
Strong analytical and communication skills, with a knack for simplifying complex concepts.
Confidence working independently while collaborating across a national network of safety professionals.
