About the Role
Join our team as a Child Neuropsychiatry Occupational Therapist (Grade 2), on a part time (0.8 EFT) ongoing basis, to work within the Oasis Unit, based at Monash Children's Hospital in Clayton.
This is a specialist clinical mental health role, where you will have the training, qualifications and experience in assessing and treating young people who have difficulties with their mental health, and occupational performance and participation.
Working within the multi-disciplinary team you will provide discipline specific assessment and treatment that contributes to the joint formulation and intervention planning for children admitted to the Child Neuropsychiatry unit. You will draw on a strong occupational performance and participation framework and be familiar with current and emerging evidence-based practices for Occupational Therapy and mental health for children with neurodevelopmental and psychiatric difficulties, and their families.
The Occupational Therapist will also contribute their skills and knowledge through individually targeted interventions and the group program. The role includes specialist consultation and education to families, schools, CYMHS and community based services and contribution to research and evaluation projects.
About OASIS
The Oasis Child Neuropsychiatry Inpatient Unit (Oasis) is a purpose built unit located in the Monash Children's Hospital. Oasis provides specialist assessment and care planning for children aged up to 12 years, with neurodevelopmental disorders (such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or Intellectual Disability) and/or who show severe or complex psychiatric, behavioural and developmental symptoms that indicate need for a short term inpatient service.
All children admitted to the unit are accompanied by parent /carer who remain throughout the admission.
Oasis is a multi-disciplinary unit that provides a range of consultation services, brief emergency admissions, and planned assessment admissions. The unit is part of the network of infant, child and youth mental health services (ICFYMHS) situated across metropolitan and regional Victoria. Patient care is carefully planned and managed through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure an integrated and effective service, tailored to the individual needs of each child, family and carer. Oasis is a centre for excellence with an active clinical and research program that integrates and enhances knowledge from psychiatry, paediatrics, neurology, endocrinology, and other specialist medical and allied health services.
