The Braidwood & District Heavy Horse Association (BDHHA) is seeking passionate and community-minded volunteers to support the delivery of the 2026 Braidwood & District Heavy Horse Show a growing regional event that celebrates the heritage, strength, and tradition of heavy horses. Now in its third major year, the Show has quickly become a highlight of the local calendar, attracting competitors, spectators, and families from across NSW and beyond. The event features Led, Ridden, Harness and Working classes, alongside demonstrations, trade stalls, and community engagement activities all brought to life through the support of dedicated volunteers.
Volunteers will be allocated to one of the following roles, with responsibilities including:
**1. Merchandise Stand Assistants (3 positions)**
- Set up and maintain the merchandise area in a clean, organised and welcoming manner
- Assist customers with purchases, enquiries and product information
- Handle cash and/or EFTPOS transactions accurately
- Monitor stock levels and assist with restocking throughout the day
- Promote the Association and event in a friendly and engaging way
**2. Gate Attendants (3 positions)**
- Welcome and greet all attendees in a friendly and professional manner
- Assist with ticket sales, entry processing and issuing wristbands or tickets
- Manage entry flow to maintain efficiency and minimise congestion
- Provide general event information and directions to visitors
- Support safe access and monitor entry points throughout the day
**3. General Event Helpers (3 positions)**
- Assist with event set-up (signage, equipment, preparation of areas) and pack-down
- Provide on-ground support to exhibitors, judges and officials as required
- Assist with coordinating movement of horses, vehicles or equipment where directed
- Help maintain cleanliness and presentation of event areas
- Step into various support roles as needed to keep the event running smoothly
**Skills and Experience**
We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds. The following attributes will support success in the role:
- Friendly, approachable and confident engaging with a wide range of people
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide clear directions and information
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong sense of responsibility
- Ability to follow instructions and work within a structured event environment
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to be flexible and assist across different tasks as required
- Basic cash handling or customer service experience (beneficial for merchandise and gate roles)
- Awareness of safety and ability to remain calm in a busy environment
- Interest in community events, agriculture, or heritage is beneficial but not required

Volunteers are required on Saturday, 9 May 2026, with shifts available, including: Full-day volunteers: approximately 8am 4pm (including breaks); Morning shift: approximately 8am 1pm; and, Afternoon shift: approximately 12pm 4pm.
Optional opportunities are also available for Set up on Friday afternoon prior to the briefing, and Pack down on Saturday afternoon following the event.
A Volunteer Induction and Briefing will be held on Friday, 8 May at 4pm.
** Training **
A Volunteer Induction will be held on Friday 8 May at 4pm, providing volunteers with a clear overview of roles and responsibilities, the event, safety procedures, and key information to support a smooth and enjoyable experience on the day. Volunteers will have the opportunity to ask questions, meet the organising team, and gain confidence in their role prior to the event. Volunteers are encouraged to attend the briefing and, where possible, camp onsite on Friday evening ahead of the event.
