Rigging Technician
WAAPA is seeking a skilled professional to oversee the efficient operation of theatre staging staff and resources. The successful candidate will support teaching and production demands by supervising rigging technicians, maintaining equipment, developing training materials, and collaborating on innovative production methods.
About the Role
* Oversee all staging equipment and supervise rigging technicians
* Provide hands-on technical support for performances and productions
* Contribute to cross-disciplinary activities such as rigging, lighting, and staging
* Guide students in the safe and effective use of theatrical systems
This role involves working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all activities align with WAAPA's educational and commercial objectives. Evening and weekend work may be required.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this role include:
* Proven examples of rigging structures and practices that have accommodated human flying in line with WHS legislation
* Experience in uploading, constructing, and operating stage sets and machinery
* Managing crew across departments and reconfiguring scenery for performance
* Maintaining accurate show documentation
* Advanced understanding of WHS legislation, risk management, and compliance in live production settings
What You'll Need
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Relevant working rights
* Experience as a Staging Supervisor, Head Mechanist, Head Flyman, or Events specialist Rigger
* Ability to demonstrate high levels of autonomy, initiative, adaptability, and attention to detail
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
