Overview
Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) is the statutory authority responsible for regulating, conducting and promoting the sport of greyhound racing and greyhound welfare across the state. The organisation is navigating a period of change, reform and opportunity, guided by a vision for Victorian greyhound racing to be vibrant, inclusive and underpinned by world-leading animal welfare and integrity.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Counsel is accountable for the provision of high-level, practical legal advice and governance support for GRV's Board, Board Committees and Executive. This role will oversee the legal and governance portfolio, providing strategic and commercially focused advice, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, risk management, contracts and disputes. It also has responsibility for freedom of information, privacy, protected disclosures and the review, consultation and drafting of recent rules of racing.
Responsibilities
- Lead the legal and governance function at an exciting time of organisational evolution
- Directly influence the business by providing strategic advice to the CEO, Board and ELT
- Oversee regulatory compliance, risk management, contracts and disputes, and governance processes
- Manage freedom of information, privacy, protected disclosures and the drafting of new rules of racing
Qualifications
- Admitted as an Australian Lawyer with a current practising certificate
- Proven capability in providing legal counsel directly to senior executives and boards
- Strong knowledge across commercial, administrative and governance law
- Ability to manage sensitive and complex legal issues and engage with senior stakeholders
- Experience in company secretariat responsibilities and board governance
- Exposure to government, statutory authority or highly regulated industries is highly regarded
