Downer Rail & Transit Systems is seeks an experienced Configuration Engineer to play a critical role in ensuring asset configuration changes are effectively controlled and accurately reflected across design and as-built records for rolling stock and rail network assets.
This role is responsible for maintaining robust configuration and change management practices that support asset capability, performance, reliability, safety, and lifecycle outcomes. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to coordinate, manage, and secure approvals for system changes in a complex operational environment.
In addition to strong technical expertise, this role provides leadership across the configuration function, driving continuous improvement, developing capability within the team, and embedding best practice configuration management principles.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure all configuration changes are appropriately managed and accurately reflected in design and as-built documentation.
* Maintain orderly management of system information and change control processes.
* Support initiatives to revise capability, improve performance and reliability, extend asset life, reduce cost, risk and liability, and correct defects.
* Apply engineering design, change management, and problem-solving methodologies in line with Australian and international standards.
* Interface with internal and external stakeholders to manage and coordinate approval of system changes.
* Assure competency through strategic recruitment, targeted training programs, and internal transfers of skilled personnel.
* Manage personal and team performance to ensure objectives and milestones are achieved.
About You
* Tertiary qualification in Engineering or a closely related discipline (preferred).
* Mandatory: Ability to meet Rail Safety Worker requirements.
* 3–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or Through Life Support environment.
* Proven experience managing configuration, design change, and engineering documentation in complex asset environments.
* Strong understanding of Engineering design and change management processes
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and investigation skills.
* Strong computer skills, including development and management of engineering information systems.
