As a Civil Engineering Technician, you will play a vital role in contributing to the success of our organization. The Civil Engineering Technician Role involves conducting testing and analysis of material samples to determine their composition and properties. This includes sample preparation and material classification using laboratory equipment. You will also label, log, and organize samples to maintain traceability.
Your responsibilities will include preparing soil specimens for laboratory testing as per relevant Australian Standards. This will involve drying, sieving, mixing, and other essential procedures. Additionally, you will operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as balances, ovens, hydrometers, compactors, and sieves.
You will collect and record test data accurately in laboratory worksheets or digital systems and prepare sketches for test reporting. It is essential to ensure that all results meet quality assurance and quality control standards. You will also calibrate instruments and perform routine equipment checks.
In this role, you will assist in reporting test results to engineers, supervisors, or project managers. Furthermore, you will provide test data and measurements that help inform cost estimates for materials and field operations.
You will be responsible for disposing of soil waste according to environmental and lab regulations. Maintaining the laboratory in compliance with QA/QC and Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) regulations is also a critical aspect of this role.
Effective communication is key in this position. You will need to communicate any equipment issues, unusual results, or safety concerns to your supervisors promptly.
