Position Summary The Industrial Designer is responsible for the research, conceptualisation, development, and technical documentation of caravan systems and components. The role involves applying design methodology, engineering principles, and manufacturing knowledge to create functional, durable, and aesthetically refined off-road caravan products suitable for production.
The position contributes directly to product innovation, manufacturability optimisation, and continuous improvement within the company's premium caravan range.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Interpret client and stakeholder requirements to define functional, aesthetic, and performance specifications for caravan products and integrated systems.
* Conduct research into materials, construction methods, ergonomics, and manufacturing processes to inform product development decisions.
* Develop conceptual designs and transform them into detailed 3D parametric models and assemblies using SolidWorks.
* Design and refine cabinetry systems, chassis interfaces, plumbing layouts, electrical and solar installations, and integrated interior components.
* Evaluate structural performance, durability, and suitability of materials for off-road operating conditions.
* Produce detailed production drawings, technical documentation, and specifications for manufacturing.
* Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), part lists, and revision-controlled documentation.
* Liaise with engineering, CNC operators, and production teams to ensure feasibility and compliance with manufacturing standards.
* Participate in prototype evaluation, identify design improvements, and implement modifications to enhance performance and efficiency.
* Ensure designs comply with Australian manufacturing standards and internal quality procedures.
* Contribute to product development strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Technical Skills
* Relevant Degree
* At least 1 year relevant experience
* SolidWorks (3D modelling, assemblies, technical drawings)
* Manufacturing documentation systems
* CNC fabrication preparation and nesting support
* Knowledge of caravan construction and integrated systems
