About ASC

Established in 1985, ASC’s 1900-plus staff offer a depth of submarine design, project management, supply chain, construction and engineering experience and expertise that is unparalleled in Australia’s defence industry.

The company’s work on Australia’s nuclear‑powered submarine build and the Collins Class Life of Type Extension takes place in Osborne, South Australia, with sustainment shared across Osborne and Henderson, Western Australia. ASC also plays a leading role in training Royal Australian Navy submariners.


About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Legal – MCS, the Intellectual Property Manager is accountable for executing the Intellectual Property Plan with meticulous adherence to ASC’s Intellectual Property Management Procedures, and ASC’s compliance obligations, ensuring intellectual property assets are managed in accordance with the Head Contracts, ASC’s Governance requirements.

The position is critical to managing risk and compliance related to ASC’s Intellectual Property obligations under various Deeds and Agreements and is party to a complex environment within the MCS context, in order to protect ASC from financial, reputational, contractual and legal harm.


Responsibilities

* Provide expert advice on Intellectual Property matters, guiding the business to achieve positive commercial outcomes.
* Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external, to address intellectual property challenges and opportunities.
* Ensure that IP is managed in accordance with ASC’s IP Management Procedure.
* Ensure the IP Management Procedure policy objectives are upheld during day‑to‑day work by ASC personnel.
* Develop and maintain a MCS Intellectual Property Compliance Program Management Plan.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Australian Copyright and Intellectual Property legislation.
* Advise internal stakeholders on Intellectual Property matters and inquiries.


Role Requirements

* Relevant tertiary qualifications in copyright, intellectual property, business management, or law.
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the management of Intellectual Property or Commercial law with relevant Intellectual Property experience.
* Demonstrated in‑depth current knowledge of Australian Copyright & Intellectual property legislation.
* Experience in the provision of intellectual property and copyright advice.
* Understanding and experience in ASDEFCON IP Management framework – highly desirable.
* Understanding of Intellectual Property administration and compliance procedures.
* Extensive experience in managing Intellectual Property risk.
* High‑quality writing skills, excellent time management and organisation skills.
* Demonstrable high level of verbal and written communication skills.
* Autonomous, goal‑directed and capable of managing multiple priorities with limited direction.


Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
