Hume City Council is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join the Road Maintenance team in the Assets Department. This permanent, full-time role is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the maintenance of Council's roads and drainage infrastructure.
Job Description
* Maintain Council's roads and drainage infrastructure in a safe, clean, and structurally sound condition.
* Evaluate and ensure that maintenance vehicles have all necessary equipment and materials to perform a range of maintenance works.
* Assist in the provision of road maintenance services in accordance with the Hume Road Management Plan.
* Perform preventative maintenance on Council's plant and equipment by conducting daily pre- and post-shift checks, running repairs where required, and ensuring efficient and competent operation.
* Achieve safety, quality standards, and service levels for road maintenance.
* Operate Council maintenance vehicles to 22.4 tonnes GCM and tow a trailer over 750kg when necessary.
* Maintain vehicles and trailers, checking and maintaining fuel, oil, water, lights, and tyres, reporting any defects or malfunctions to mechanical maintenance staff, and conducting minor maintenance as required.
* Contribute to the development and monitoring of road, drainage, and roadside programs.
* Assist in the development of maintenance programs and develop effective reactive maintenance works procedures and responses that align with industry service levels for defined maintenance activities in the Road Management Plan.
Requirements
* Demonstrated understanding of municipal maintenance operations and practices.
* BASIC awareness of relevant legislation, including the Road Management Act 2004.
* Knowledge of Works Programming, plant and equipment selection.
* Knowledge of maintenance procedures, plant, equipment, and materials, and the selection and use of plant and materials for road/drainage maintenance and repairs, including the Road Works Signing Code of Practice.
* Good written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated skills in written and oral communication techniques.
* Ability to gain co-operation and communicate verbally to a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
* BASIC knowledge of WH&S processes and procedures.
* Operation and maintenance of heavy mechanical plant and equipment.
Required Certifications & Qualifications
* Certificate III in Civil Construction/Plant or substantial relevant experience in the field of road maintenance with lesser formal qualifications.
* Several years of experience in the field of road maintenance or a similar maintenance environment.
* Current driver's licence.
* Heavy rigid truck licence.
* Certificate of competency to operate plant, including grader, backhoes, and loaders.
* Forklift licence.
* WH&S White/Red Card.
* Control traffic with Stop-Slow bat.
* Implement Traffic Management Plans.
