Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to fill the role of Peer Support Worker. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for providing support to clients, their families, and friends who contact or are referred to our service.
Utilizing your own lived experience of mental health and/or substance use, you will assist clients in achieving their best outcomes and help develop a better understanding of recovery-oriented care among clinical caregivers.
As a positive role model to clients, you will work collaboratively with a highly skilled team, participate in regular clinical supervision, and present cases to the clinical care team.
This is a part-time position (30 hours) that requires the right candidate to possess a range of skills and qualifications outlined below.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Hold qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Peer Work, Mental Health, Community Work, Welfare, Alcohol and Other Drugs or currently working towards a higher relevant qualification (or willingness to complete).
* Experience in direct service provision to young people and/or providing mental health services or programs, including responding effectively to crisis and high-risk situations when required.
* Proven track record of engaging with, building, establishing, and maintaining effective relationships (with appropriate boundaries) with diverse groups of people, including internal and external stakeholders, young people, their families/carers/kin, health professionals, educators, researchers, and service providers.
* Personal lived experience of complex mental health issues and recovery (as direct experience or as a carer).
* Experiencing using strengths-based and person-centred approaches to communicate about recovery journeys.
* Experience working with vulnerable groups or individuals (on or offline).
* Demonstrated interest and ability to collaborate with people impacted by mental illness, aiming to improve their health and well-being.
