AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS Data Centers, including servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment, ensuring our customers have continuous access to innovation. The Infrastructure Operations (Data Center) team maintains the physical infrastructure of AWS, supporting rapid growth and ensuring safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost standards.
The Data Center Engineering Operations Trainee will handle operations within an Amazon Data Center, including risk management, maintenance of critical infrastructure, vendor management, and metric reporting. We welcome individuals with little to no experience but a strong technical understanding and passion for learning data center operations. The role reports to the DCEO Manager and focuses on maintaining availability, managing costs, assessing risks, and reviewing maintenance activities.
You will collaborate with software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to uphold safety and security standards while providing high capacity at low costs. We foster an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas and ownership.
Successful candidates will undergo a background check. This is a 6-month fixed-term position with potential for full-time conversion.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in managing contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring compliance with practices, procedures, and legislation.
* Maintain performance benchmarks, analyze data, and prepare reports on infrastructure operations and maintenance.
* Generate Change Management requests and Incident Management tickets.
* Contribute to documentation related to business and facility operations.
* Assist with rack installation and the provisioning of power and cooling.
* Participate in routine maintenance and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, and monitoring systems.
* Support the design, implementation, commissioning, and build-out of new facilities.
* Help manage facility assets and inventory.
* Participate in construction and operational meetings as needed.
* Assist with Work Order compliance and review contractual SLAs.
* Coordinate with Infra Ops teams for daily operations.
* Help resolve infrastructure engineering or service issues.
* Deliver excellent customer service.
* Meet operational hours, shift, and on-call requirements.
A Day in the Life
In large-scale data centers, you will:
* Support onsite operations, troubleshoot facility and rack events within SLAs.
* Perform rack installs and decommissions, manage facility operations.
* Provide operational data and KPIs to ensure uptime.
* Manage contractors, vendors, and ensure compliance with procedures and legislation.
* Maintain electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
* Technical degree or certifications (e.g., Cert IV, Military/Trade School)
* Data Center Operations experience
* Bachelor's in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field
