What You’ll Be Doing Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities to develop your maritime career. Depending on your role, you might: Ensure vessels, firefighting, and environmental protection equipment are in top condition. This includes general maintenance tasks such as chipping, painting, splicing ropes, and supporting engine room operations as needed. Assist with the handling, securing, and releasing of lines and ropes during vessel operations. Manage stores, equipment, and supplies to keep operations running smoothly. Operate winches and other machinery during operations, providing assistance to Deckhands as needed to ensure smooth and safe vessel activities. Take command of the tug and manage the crew to ensure safe, efficient operations. Coordinate crew attendance, stores provisioning, and maintain operational readiness. Uphold Svitzer’s policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with quality assurance and ISM standards. Contribute to operational improvement initiatives and share ideas with our leadership team. What You’ll Bring We’re looking for individuals who are reliable, safety-focused, and have a true passion for the maritime industry. To thrive in these roles, you’ll bring: A minimum General Purpose Hand Certificate of Competency ( Deckhands ), Engineer Class 3 Certificate of Competency ( Engineers ) or Master Certificate of Competency ( Masters ) Statements of Attainment in Provide First Aid and CPR A current AMSA Medical and a valid MSIC (or the ability to obtain one) Maritime experience is essential (harbour towage experience is a strong advantage). A strong team player with a proven ability to work well with others to get the job done. Great communication skills with the confidence to connect and work well with others. A calm and clear thinker who can make good decisions under pressure, especially in challenging or emergency situations. An eye for detail with a strong focus on safety, accuracy, and getting tasks done the right way. Comfortable with technology, including basic computer skills and familiarity with MS Office tools.
