Primary objective
Lead, coordinate and deliver hydrogeological assessment projects and programs, to meet Northern Territory Government
(NTG) priorities regarding water resource management and major projects.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage delivery of water assessment projects and associated research investigations and technology options that
improve the understanding of groundwater resource capabilities, risks and capacity to meet NTG priorities and
commitments.
1. Oversee and provide technical hydrogeological assessment advice for water extraction licences, Notice of Intent,
Environmental Impact Statements, Public Environmental Reports and Development applications across the department
and NTG agencies.
1. Manage and mentor a team of scientific professionals that undertake hydrogeological investigations.
2. Collaborate and provide technical advice to the Drilling Unit to support alignment with industry standards, best practices,
and regulatory requirements.
5. Provide project management, planning and delivery of contracts within the division including financial, technical and
progress reports for external and internal reporting requirements.
6. Lead, review and present technical reports within designated timeframes
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in Hydrogeology, Science or similar relevant tertiary qualification with formal training in water resource
management and/or hydrogeology and the ability to apply that training in a resources management field.
2. Proven professional experience at a senior level in hydrogeological assessments and knowledge of groundwater including
data analysis, aquifer mapping, groundwater chemistry and geological interpretation.
3. Demonstrated experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team to provide effective and efficient services.
4. Demonstrated experience in the design and hydrogeological supervision of bore drilling projects for hydrogeological
analysis and to inform groundwater monitoring programs.
5. Strong project management skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects within budget and timeframes.
6. High level report writing skills with the ability to analyse and communicate complex issues within concise documents for
a range of different audiences.
7. Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement with land owners, pastoral lease holders, various non-government
organisations, community groups and external stakeholders.
Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualification in hydrogeology and or knowledge of NT hydrogeology.
