Australian Signals Directorate – Geraldton WA
Shoal Bay Receiving Station (SBRS) based in Darwin and Australian Defence Satellite Communications Station (ADSCS) based in Geraldton are remote intelligence facilities managed by ASD. Due to the unique nature of the work conducted at this location, staff may be provided the opportunity to obtain a range of additional qualifications including construction cards, truck and forklift licences.
Computer Systems Technicians will work within an integrated Site Support Team, supporting functions across Systems Development, Facilities and Infrastructure, Business Management, Mission and Security, and Project Integration. These roles combine technical integration work, systems development support, and project coordination to ensure successful delivery of site‐based operational capabilities.
The position is suited to individuals who can work across both technical and administrative domains, providing hands‐on support in ICT installation, systems integration, project delivery, and stakeholder coordination.
ASD 5
* Coordinate technical, administrative, and business support activities for site teams, identifying risks and assisting in determining appropriate actions to meet stakeholder needs.
* Undertake ICT cabling, hardware installation, and integration work within onsite data centres and facility environments.
* Contribute to the planning and management of systems development and integration activities.
* Adopt and apply appropriate systems development methods, tools, and techniques in line with organisational standards and governance frameworks.
* Engage with stakeholders to ensure systems development deliverables meet requirements and quality expectations. Manage risks and issues associated with systems development, escalating when required.
* Support the continuous improvement of systems development processes, documentation, and practices.
* Provide day‐to‐day operational support including administration, project scheduling, escorting duties, and ad hoc tasking.
* Identify and interpret legislative frameworks, policies, strategies, and business requirements, applying them appropriately to the work area.
* Develop and implement procedural, operational, and administrative documentation that supports technical and project outcomes.
* Provide governance and secretariat support, including for site- or project‐specific committees.
* Build and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders and team members, providing constructive feedback and informed technical advice.
* Take initiative to progress complex technical and administrative tasks, supporting the successful delivery of site and project outcomes.
* Analyse issues and implement appropriate solutions, including alternative technical approaches where needed.
ASD 6
* Plan and support systems development projects to ensure they align with organisational objectives and capability needs.
* Select, adopt, and adapt appropriate systems development methods, tools, and techniques to support project activities.
* Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure required resources are understood, planned for, and made available, and support the efficient utilisation of those resources.
* Monitor and report on the progress of development projects, including schedule, cost, risks, issues, and deliverable status.
* Ensure that projects follow agreed architectures, standards, methods, and tools, including required security and privacy controls.
* Contribute to the development of roadmaps to communicate future systems development activity, sequencing, and integration needs.
* Assist in translating user, business, and technical requirements into actionable project tasks and documentation.
* Support the preparation of project plans, schedules, risk registers, governance artefacts, and progress reports.
* Help track interdependencies with related capability, technology, or infrastructure initiatives.
* Contribute to continuous improvement activities, including reviewing systems development processes and supporting enhancements.
* Build and maintain effective relationships with project stakeholders and technical specialists.
* Provide guidance and support to more junior staff as required, fostering a collaborative working environment aligned with ASD values.
