We are currently seeking to hire a qualified and experienced Mechanical Trade (Fitting) to join our manufacturing department in Griffith NSW. At Collier & Miller, a Fitter is an advanced mechanical technician specializing in the installation, manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery, parts, and mechanical systems.
Core Capabilities
- Lead installation and assembly of machinery, including pumps and electric motors, ensuring accurate alignment to engineering standards.
- Utilize advanced fitting techniques, including CNC programming, tool setting, and high‑precision machinery, to manufacture, shape, align, and assemble parts and subassemblies with exact tolerances.
- Perform in‑depth diagnostics on mechanical systems to identify faults and determine the best repair methods, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal disruption to operations.
- Repair, test and reassemble critical equipment, including fluid power systems, to uphold safety and operational integrity.
- Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to guide material selection, machining, and CNC programming, adjusting setups to meet detailed technical requirements of each project.
- Fabricate and install metal parts and subassemblies for machines and equipment, ensuring proper fit and alignment using high‑precision measuring tools, and inspect metal components for accuracy, clearance and precise functionality within machinery.
- Cut, thread, bend and install hydraulic and pneumatic lines, adhering to safety and operational standards.
- Perform maintenance and overhauls on mechanical and fluid power systems to ensure consistent operational performance, and recommend preventative maintenance to optimise machinery longevity and efficiency.
- Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues, providing process improvements for enhanced system functionality and efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications
- Advanced certification in mechanical fitting and engineering – Certificate III in Engineering and Mechanical Trade (or equivalent), with extensive experience in industrial mechanical fitting and system maintenance.
- Extensive technical expertise in mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including operation of specialised equipment such as CNC lathes.
- Leadership and mentorship abilities – demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and provide leadership in complex maintenance tasks, fostering technical growth and team improvement.
Salary range is $70,000 - $85,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
