Position Description

This is a fixed‐term opportunity for 6 months, with the potential for extension of an additional 3 to 6 months.

Recognised as one of the world's largest IT and business consulting firms, CGI has offices across Australia, supporting local public and private sector clients to solve real business problems.

We are looking for a Security Analyst to join our shift‐based Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Melbourne.

As cyber threats grow more complex and automated, so do we. Our SOC is at the heart of CGI's cyber defence strategy, operating around the clock to help protect critical systems across Australia. We're growing our team and looking for individuals ready to build practical cybersecurity experience and grow with us.

This role is ideal for someone early in their cybersecurity journey who is looking to build hands‐on skills and progress into more specialised areas whether in threat intelligence, automation, incident response or cloud security.

You will gain broad exposure to tools, technologies and real‐world incidents, with support from experienced analysts and clear pathways to grow your career in cyber.

Future duties and responsibilities

* Monitor and triage security events using playbooks, SIEM tools, and case management systems.
* Respond to alerts, identify false positives, and elevate incidents for deeper analysis and resolution.
* Collaborate with senior analysts and subject matter experts to resolve incidents and enhance detection capabilities.
* Contribute to the creation and continuous improvement of security runbooks and operational procedures.
* Support monthly reporting and contribute to threat and trend analysis.
* Stay current with emerging threats and participate in team training initiatives to expand your technical skills.
* Gain hands‐on experience across a range of security technologies including Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, Defender, CrowdStrike, Red Hat, AWS and Azure security services, and SOAR platforms.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

* A strong background in cybersecurity, information security, or information technology.
* Experience or exposure to SOC monitoring, incident response or threat analysis.
* Understanding of network fundamentals, Windows/Linux systems and security tools.
* Familiarity with SIEM, EDR/XDR or cloud security monitoring tools.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast‐paced, team‐oriented environment.
* Demonstrated analytical and problem‐solving skills.
* Australian Citizenship, with eligibility to obtain a government security clearance.
* Security certifications such as Security+, CySA+, SC‐200 or vendor certifications are advantageous but not essential.
