About the role
The Spatial Data Developer is a technical specialist within Vicmap supporting the end-to-end data load and replication pipelines that ensure Victoria's foundational spatial data is sourced, transformed, maintained, validated, and published for end-users. The role requires expertise in database administration, cloud infrastructure, programming, and data modelling to deliver robust, efficient, and cost-effective data pipelines that support Vicmap's custodians and customers.

Position accountabilities
DTP is seeking a Spatial Data Developer to support the ongoing maintenance, optimisation, and delivery of Vicmap products. In this role, you will contribute to weekly Vicmap data loads, ensuring data accuracy, reliability, and continuity of service while supporting automation and improvements across data supply chains. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining metadata, registry tables, and product views to uphold quality and support stakeholder use.
Working closely with data custodians and technical teams, you will provide expert advice, manage complex system escalations, and act as Product Manager for quality assurance and reporting modules. The position requires sound capability in administering and optimising cloud-based environments, including AWS databases, and the ability to implement change management tasks at the database level to resolve technical issues and enhance operational performance.
The ideal candidate brings strong problem-solving skills, technical knowledge of spatial data systems, and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders. This is an opportunity to contribute to the performance, integrity, and continuous improvement of key spatial data products used across the state.
Qualifications and experience
Mandatory
– Tertiary qualification in Geospatial Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
– Demonstrated experience in database administration (PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and cloud environments (Amazon Web Services).
– Proven ability to design, implement and maintain spatial data supply chains, including metadata and quality assurance processes.
– Strong programming/scripting experience (Python, Javascript, SQL) for data automation and integration tasks.
– Experience in Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices and using code repository tools such as Azure DevOps, Github or Bitbucket.
