The Opportunity
Join the University of the Sunshine Coast as a Senior Data Engineer and Business Intelligence Developer. You will apply your expertise in data analytics strategies, technologies, systems, and practices to shape our future data and analytics landscape. Working closely with university stakeholders, you'll deliver an enterprise-wide analytics program—designing, building, testing, and implementing data products that meet business needs and align with our data and analytics roadmap. This role offers the chance to modernise data practices, develop innovative BI solutions, and contribute to a more insightful, connected university environment.

You will
Implement our data and analytics roadmap to enhance responsible and strategic data use across the university;
Utilize your technical skills and business insight to improve data approaches in a complex, evolving environment;
Support the design, deployment, and maintenance of robust data warehouse solutions for reporting and integration;
Collaborate with colleagues to create clear dashboards and visualisations that facilitate data-informed decision-making.
About you
You are someone who enjoys solving complex problems with scalable solutions, experienced in data pipelines, visualisations, and related areas. Our ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, deeply technical, and passionate about transforming messy data into clear insights. You thrive in environments that value your ideas, trust your expertise, and impact the organisation positively.
You will possess:
Experience in designing data warehouses, developing BI solutions, and creating visualisations that reveal insights;
Confidence with Azure tools such as Data Factory, Function Apps, and Synapse, plus experience in data engineering, ETL, and architecture;
Proficiency in SQL, Python, PowerShell, and BI tools, with expertise in data-focused languages or platforms;
Understanding of data governance, quality, security, and privacy, with practical application in complex settings;
Ability to craft engaging visualisations that support strategic insights;
Excellent communication skills to convey complex ideas clearly to diverse stakeholders;
Strong project management skills to handle priorities and solve problems innovatively;
Experience with testing frameworks and methodologies to ensure data and BI solutions are fit for purpose.
