Aboriginal Hostels Limited’s (AHL) vision is to improve the quality of life and opportunities for First Nations People through their national network of hostels.
AHL hostels are like a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities. They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay.
AHL is proud to be one of the largest employers of First Nations People in the Australian Public Service (APS) with First Nations employees making up approximately 50% of their workforce.
The Role
Working alongside Hostel Managers and reporting to the Director, Frontline Services, you will provide support and help ensure the delivery of safe, affordable and culturally appropriate services.
You will be responsible for leading and managing hostel operations and staff across a number of hostels in Alice Springs.
Duties include:
* Building a high-performing team by setting clear expectations, and fostering a service-oriented culture focused on residents' needs
* Managing financial responsibilities, including RMS tariff income, debt recovery, receipting, banking, and enforcing the “No Pay, No Stay” policy
* Overseeing staffing, including rosters, planned leave, unscheduled absences, recruitment, and fortnightly attendance and leave approvals
* Managing hostel assets and property, ensuring timely repairs, maintenance, and emergency response
* Overseeing complaints and incidents, ensuring timely management and appropriate escalation
* Supporting community engagement efforts to promote AHL services and meet occupancy targets
The Ideal Person
People with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and issues affecting First Nations peoples are well suited to this role and are encouraged to apply.
You will have 2 - 3 years of relevant experience in Not-for-Profit organisations, residential facilities, hospitality, or frontline services (health, education, disability, or community services).
Additionally you will have:
* The ability to set priorities, drive high performance and manage complex staff and resident issues
* Strong communication and relationship management skills to engage effectively with staff, residents and the community
* Experience in HR and financial functions, including recruitment, and performance management
* Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to manage rosters, leave approvals, incident reports, and property maintenance
* Strong computer skills and using tools to enable working remotely
* Commitment to high-quality customer service and prioritising Work Health and Safety
* Willingness and ability to travel to AHL sites across Australia as required

Salary and Benefits
This role is offered on a full-time, ongoing basis
* $94,563 - $105,910 + 15.4% Super
* Additional remote location allowance per year: $3,464 pa without dependants or up to $6,290 pa with dependant
* Generous shift penalties for work after hours, weekends and public holidays
