Overview

Find purpose and passion in your career with Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District. $31.51 - $52.48 per hour + 12% super & salary packaging | Temporary Part Time 32 hours per week | Wollongong Hospital (TWH) | REQ | Grade: Health Education Officer Graduate/Non Graduate | Applications close: 21 September 2025. This is a temporarily funded position until 25 June 2028 with the possibility of an extension subject to funding. The Dual Diagnosis Peer Worker position is based in the Emergency Department and works with the Mental Health Emergency Teams to enhance outcomes for individuals with a Dual Diagnosis. The role requires the person to have lived experience of mental health and drug and/or alcohol issues. The position will provide an effective link between consumers/carers, clinicians and services, with a focus on improving the consumer journey and treatment outcomes while providing advocacy and support. The Peer Worker will develop strong stakeholder partnerships, including liaison with families and/or carers. This role is required to work weekends and afterhours. While based at Wollongong Hospital, travel across the district may be required.

The campus includes the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre and provides inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

Responsibilities

- Act as a Dual Diagnosis Peer Worker in the Emergency Department, linking consumers, carers and clinical teams to improve the consumer journey and treatment outcomes.
- Provide advocacy and support to consumers and involve families and carers as appropriate.
- Develop strong and effective stakeholder partnerships and liaise with multidisciplinary teams.
- Work weekends and afterhours as required.
- Be prepared to travel across the district when needed.

Requirements

- Essential requirements for the role include:
- Applicable vaccination requirements for a Category A role.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC).
- Certificate IV in Peer Work (or willingness to undertake the Certificate IV in Peer Work).
- Valid NSW Driver’s Licence.
